The Cornell Big Red  opened their men's basketball season with an 84-64 win over the Binghamton Bearcats at Newman Arena in Ithaca on Tuesday night.  The Big Red led 45-38 at the end of the first half. In the second half they outscored Binghamton 39-26 to win by 20 points.

With Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim in attendance and watching Jimmy Boeheim (son) turned in a splendid performance. He led all scorers with 24 points including 13 in the second half.  Boeheim scored from all over the court  and made a pair of three-point shots and overall went 11-19 from the field.  Fellow forward Josh Warren added 19 points and Thurston McCarty added 11 more.  Warren and McCarty each grabbed six rebounds.

For the Bearcats transfer forward Pierre Sarr made 6 of twelve shots and finished with 16 points to pace the Binghamton offense. Richard Caldell, Jr hit for 12 points while freshman George Tinsley cashed in for 10 in his first collegiate game.

Binghamton faces the preseason number one team in the country when it travels to Michigan State for a 7:00 PM game on Sunday night.  The Bearcats then travel to Columbia to face another Ivy League foe next Wednesday before playing at home for the first time on Saturday, November 16 when they host Sacred Heart at the Events Center.
