Workers are busy preparing a new restaurant which is scheduled to open this spring in the University Plaza in Vestal.

The CopperTop Tavern is being built adjacent Tully's Good Times sports bar, which has been open for about a decade.

Co-owner David Giamartino said his family owns both CopperTop and Tully's. He said this will be the first CopperTop Tavern located outside the Syracuse area.

Giamartino said the new Vestal business will occupy about 8,900 square feet. That's a bit larger than the neighboring Tully's operation.

As the name suggests, the tavern that's to open in May will feature a copper-topped bar. It also will have a catering room.

Giamartino said the CopperTop will offer an "eclectic menu" that will include various pizzas, noodles and pasta dishes. It also will feature 48 different beers with about 75 percent of them being craft brews.

Giamartino said the new business plans to hire about 100 people before its opening. The hiring process is underway. He said people interested in obtaining an application may request one at the Vestal Tully's restaurant.
