Broome’s Willow Point Nursing Home Gets First COVID Vaccines

Broome County is reporting the first COVID-19 vaccines have been administered at the county-run nursing home that has been listed as a hotspot for the coronavirus several times since the start of the pandemic.

Officials say the first vaccination clinic took place at Willow Point Rehabilitation and Nursing Center over the weekend.

The 300-bed facility is among the first to receive the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine.

According to a news release issued by the facility, Omnicare is administering the vaccine in-house to who volunteer to receive the shot.  Consent is required in the form of a phone call, email or in writing before receiving the vaccine.

Unit Clerk, Kim Savage was the first employee to receive the COVID-19 vaccination on January 2. Savage’s mother is also a resident of the nursing home.

Omnicare is scheduling the clinic dates for first and second doses of the vaccine to be given to staff and residents who have given consent.

One-third of those who gave permission were scheduled to be in the first clinic. The news release did not provide the number of doses that have been administered so far.
