Broome Residents Can Ditch Electronics/ Hazardous Materials at Landfill

Broome County residents who have old electronics or other hazardous materials have a chance to unload problem items for free.

Things like old paint cans, pesticides, fire extinguishers and fluorescent light bulbs that they can’t put out in the trash can get rid of the items free this weekend at the landfill.

Residents throughout the year are faced with the problem of what to do with old televisions, monitors, fire extinguishers, fluorescent light bulbs, outdated computer equipment, printers that don’t work and household appliances that have ceased to function as well as more obvious hazardous materials like paints, solvents and other household chemicals.

Broome County holds regular collection days through the year while items are accepted at the landfill on non-designated days for a $5 flat fee.

The County is holding one of its free drop off of electronics and hazardous waste days January 22 from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. The collection is for Broome County residents, not businesses.
