Broome County Family Court Judge Richard Miller II is out of a job for repeated instances of misconduct while in office.

Miller's removal took effect immediately as the New York State Court of Appeals Thursday accepted a determination made by the Commission on Judicial Conduct.

According to the commission, Miller was fired for repeatedly making sexist and demeaning statements to a woman who worked as a court clerk. He also had screamed and belittled another court clerk by filing a complaint against her after she complained about him.

Miller also was found to have not properly disclosed outside income.

Commission administrator Robert Tembeckjian issued a statement saying "it is never easy or pleasant" to fire a judge for misconduct. But, he added, the court decision should reassure the public that judges in New York will be held to "high ethical standards."
