[GALLERY] What You Need To Know For The Broome County Trout Stocking Schedule
Spring is here, temperatures are rising (slowly) and April 1st is almost here. If you love to fish, it's the best time of the year with trout season about to begin. It rivals the first day of deer season in my opinion.
And this is the time of the year when the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) stocks creeks, ponds, and lakes throughout the state with yearling and older trout. And that includes several in Broome County.
Below, are most of the creeks, ponds, and lakes to be stocked with trout in Broome County for the 2022 season according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and includes the number of trout, species, inches, and general dates of stocking.
If you're someone who lives in Delaware County, you're in luck. That's the local county who has the most entries on the DEC's list of river stocking. A big part of that is the Delaware River which isn't only getting stocked once, but every other week throughout the months of April and May.
Another massive spot that is seeing a lot of trout is Cayuga Lake -- which is understandable since its one of the Finger Lakes. Between the lake itself and the inlet in the city of Ithaca, more than 20,000 trout will be put in the lake.
Take a look below at the schedule and locations of the bodies of water in Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, Tompkins, and Cortland that will be stocket with trout by the DEC:
