Broome County Executive Jason Garnar says it’s important to note over three dozen people have recovered from the coronavirus as the number of those testing positive continues to climb.

The county has again gotten hundreds of additional kits and tests are now being administered to more than just the sickest of patients, boosting the number of positive results.

April 16, Broome reported 12 new cases, bringing the total to 171.  There have been eight deaths.

Counties all around the Southern Tier report at least one new case of COVID-19 over the past day.  Chenango County had two additions with a total of 72, Cortland added one for a total of 24, Delaware up one to 47, Tioga County’s rate grew by 7 to 43 while Tompkins County added one case for a regional high total of 116 cases of the coronavirus.

New York State April 16 reported 606 new deaths from the coronavirus. 8,505 new cases were reported overnight Wednesday for a total of 222,284 positives.  Hospitalizations, however fell by 1,000 to 18,000.  29 of the 606 people who died April 15 in New York State were in nursing homes.
