News Channel 34 reports a resolution before lawmakers calls for the County to enter into a lease agreement with Spark Broome LLC that would have the former Sears building at the Oakdale Mall to house the Department of Social Services and Office of Employment and Training.

Spark Broome would buy and refurbish the building at the north end of the Oakdale Mall to meet the needs of the Office of Employment and Training and the DSS.

Under the plans, some of the operations of both offices would remain at their current locations: on Main Street across from Binghamton High School for the DSS and in space occupied by the New York State Department of Labor downtown for the OET.

The deal is expected to start off with a $540,000 lease with a 2.5% increase in rent annually through 2034.
