The City announced Front Street from Prospect Street to McDonald Avenue would close to thru traffic April 1 but motorists said the closure actually was in place March 29.  The closure will continue until the project is completed.

Traffic is to follow marked detour routes.

Last year during construction, businesses on Front Street complained customers were unable to get to them and they suffered financial hardship.

Residents in the surrounding neighborhoods also had issues with increased traffic on their streets and motorists that clearly didn't know where they were going on the narrow roadways.

Still, the lengthy project is expected to present a much-improved impression as traffic enters the City headed to downtown from Interstates 81, 88 and 86 and State Routes 17 and 11.

The multi-million dollar project not only includes paving but also replacement of aging water and sewer infrastructure, sidewalks and lighting.
