Now that we're in the month of March, for sports fans, it's an exciting month. College and high school sports playoffs have begun or are about to. Baseball is about to return, or is it? Well, at least the Binghamton Rumble Ponies are slated to begin on time.

The Binghamton University Men's and Women's basketball teams have just completed their regular season and are set for playoff action. The men's team ended their regular season in 7th place with an overall record of 11-16 and the women's team also ended the regular season in 7th place with a 9-19 record.

The Binghamton University Women's basketball team will be in America East Conference quarterfinal action on Saturday, March 5th against the University of Vermont in Burlington. Gametime will be 2:30 p.m. If they advance, the semi-final game will be Tuesday, March 8th, and the championship game is set for Friday, March 11th.

The Binghamton University Men's basketball team will be in the America East Conference quarterfinal action on Sunday, March 6th. As of this writing, their opponent has not been determined. If they reach the semi-finals, that game will be played on Wednesday, March 9th, and the finals are slated for Saturday, March 12th.

Do you remember the year the Binghamton University Men's Basketball team won the America East championship at the Events Center in 2009? I was at that game, and wow, what an amazing win that was against UMBC with a score of 61 to 51. To be a part of that crowd in the Events Center was something I'll never forget. So much excitement for the game and to know that for the first time in school history, the team would be playing in the NCAA national tournament.

The America East winner advances to the NCAA tournament, and in 2009, Binghamton was selected as a number 15 seed, placed up against 2nd seeded Duke. The Bearcats lost by a score of 86 to 62. But it was great to see our local team on the big stage.

We'll see how both teams do this time around. Both Binghamton University Men's and Women's playoff games can be heard on our sister radio station 1290 AM & 92.1 FM - WNBF.
