Traffic was detoured away from a heavily-traveled bridge in Binghamton after a person reportedly threatened to jump from the span.

Authorities say city police were sent to the Clinton Street Bridge around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.

The bridge - which connects the downtown business district with the First Ward - was closed to traffic while police negotiated with the person during a moderate snow storm.

Two Binghamton Fire Department boats were put into the Susquehanna River near the south end of Front Street. The boats traveled a short distance north on the Chenango River in case they were needed.

The situation was resolved around 10:20 a.m. and the bridge was reopened to traffic.

Police transported the person who had been on the bridge to Binghamton General Hospital to be evaluated.
