A Binghamton resident has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly fired a gun while investigators tried to taken him into custody near Wilson Medical Center.

28-year-old Macoley Saunders of Abbott Street was arrested following a foot pursuit and a violent struggle in Johnson City late Friday afternoon.

Authorities revealed details of the incident at a news conference Wednesday at Binghamton City Hall.

Investigators spotted Saunders riding on the back of a motorcycle on Main Street in Johnson City. He ran from police on Allen Street, cutting through several yards with investigators in pursuit.

As an investigator tried to take Saunders into custody at Hudson Street and Park Place, the suspect allegedly fired one shot from a 9mm handgun.

Police said Saunders was taken into custody after fighting with other investigators. The suspect and an injured investigator were taken to Wilson for treatment.

At the hospital, Saunders allegedly told the investigators who pursued him that he "should have stopped and shot you guys."

Police said Saunders had been wanted on arrest warrants in connection with a July domestic incident in Binghamton.

In addition to the attempted murder count, Saunders faces several other charges, including criminal use of a firearm, assault and resisting arrest. He also was arrested on a parole violation.
