Florida Man Accused of Shooting JC Rideshare Driver in the Back
An angry rideshare customer has been charged with attempted murder after a driver was shot in Johnson City.
Authorities say the 49-year-old man was assaulted on Floral Avenue around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
Village police were sent to the neighborhood after someone reported a dispute. While officers were on their way, they were advised that gunshots had been fired.
Police found the driver in his vehicle with gunshot wounds to his chest and back. The injured man was taken to a hospital. His condition was not released.
Investigators said police were told the shooter "had become upset" with the driver during a ride. The passenger then attacked the driver while inside the vehicle before getting out and shooting the man.
A description of the suspect was put out to area police. A short time later, Johnson City officers found 20-year-old Jaeden Cunningham near the corner of Floral and Burbank avenues. He was taken into custody without incident.
Police said he was in possession of a 9mm Taurus handgun. He's been charged with attempted murder, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Cunningham - who resides in Cocoa, Florida - was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail.
