A special audit meeting of the Binghamton Local Development Corporation has been scheduled following the firing of the city economic development chief.

The session will be held Wednesday at Binghamton City Hall. Mayor Richard David last week dismissed Robert Murphy as director of economic development.

Just before the close of business on the day before Thanksgiving, the mayor announced he had fired Murphy.

David's announcement came two days after the Local Development Corporation board of directors removed Murphy from the post of executive director.

The mayor's statement said the actions followed the discovery of a payment issued by Murphy that had been made without the authorization or knowledge of the board.

Murphy has made no public comment on the circumstances surrounding the financial transaction.

Joel Boyd, the city's assistant director of economic development, Monday was unable to provide information about the upcoming special audit meeting.

Mayor David was not available to discuss the meeting, which is to be held in the planning conference room at City Hall at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
