Avoid Flying Out of These 3 New York Area Airports This Holiday Season
Welcome to the holiday season! Many of our lives are going to get really busy from now through the end of the year. Hold on tight, and maybe we will get through it unscathed.
Well, okay, the holidays are not always that bad, or crazy...that is until the extended family comes to stay with you for the entire holiday season.
There is the option to get away to some fun destination or maybe to visit friends or family over the holidays. Just remember that the highways and airways will be busy.

Speaking of flying over the holidays, it can be a fun experience or it can be a real nightmare. Depending on when you fly out, and where you fly out from, can make the difference. Add in Mother Nature's plans over the holidays, and you could have weather as a factor in messing up your flight plans.
On a personal note, I have a flight just after the holiday season, that already has become a nightmare. The departure time has changed, and the connecting flight time has been reduced to a time that I'm not sure I will make it.
But if I do, the airline has decided to toss in an extra layover at another connecting airport, where, if I'm lucky, will get me to my destination sometime during the overnight hours. I'm not looking forward to that potential scenario.
How about airport delays? Well, the website Air Advisor has some stats on that, and unfortunately, a few major airports not far from the Binghamton area are on the list for the worst in the country for delays, and just overall, the worst airports in the country. The list shows the top 6 major airports that score as the worst overall in the U.S.A.
The analysis was based on flights in June, July, and August of 2022. Air Advisor took into consideration the overall number of routes that were delayed, the percentage of flights not arriving on time, and the average number of minutes the flights were late.
Coming in at #5 is La Guardia in Queens. 135 routes were delayed over the three-month period.
Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey landed (or should I say delayed) at #3. 205 routes were delayed.
The honor of #1 goes to (drum roll) - JFK. 146 flights were delayed at this airport over the three-month period in 2022.
As for the rest of the top 6 - #2- Chicago Midway International, #6- Orlando International Airport, and #6- Denver International Airport.
So, if you plan on flying this holiday season, here's to hoping your flight is on time, and you don't miss any layovers. If only I would be so lucky.
