Antler Lodge Moves From Long-Time Binghamton Site

A social club that had been targeted by Binghamton officials after a fatal shooting has vacated the building it had occupied for decades.

The Antler Lodge building at 201 Chenango Street has been vacated by the Triple Cities Nu Temple as the organization prepares to move to another site in the city.

Christina Archie-Brown of Elks United, which oversaw the facility, said the property was recently sold to developers who are working on a $2.5 million project on a neighboring site.

Last spring, Mayor Richard David said there had been discussions with the Antler Lodge about the possibility of moving to another site.

The city had threatened to lock down the Antler Lodge after a 33-year-old man was fatally shot outside the establishment in July 2015.

Developer Steven Reid said the property was acquired as STK Partners continues to work on a planned apartment complex in an existing building at Chenango and Eldredge streets.

Reid said items were moved out of the Antler Lodge property over a period of several days.

Archie-Brown said the club plans to set up operations soon at a new location in the city. She declined to identify the new site but she said it is bigger than the Chenango Street structure. She said it could be open before Christmas.

Mayor David on Tuesday criticized the way the operators of the Antler Lodge previously had responded to past incidents linked to the property.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, David said "there's a track record here that we're concerned about."

The mayor said he hoped the move to a new location represents "an opportunity to reinvent the identity of the Antler Lodge and perhaps do things differently so there will be positive contributions to the community."
