The Binghamton community is preparing to mark the 10th anniversary of the deadliest shooting in the region’s history.

On the morning of April 3, 2009, a former student of the American Civic Association walked into the Front Street facility and began shooting staff, students and teachers before taking his own life.  13 victims died that day in addition to the shooter.

April 3, remembrances will be held at the ACA at 10 a.m. with a walk to the nearby memorial to the victims at the corner of Front and Clinton Streets for a short ceremony.

A Survivors’ Tribute hosted by the Crime Victims Assistance Center will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the ACA.

Both the current Mayor of the City of Binghamton, Rich David and the man who was mayor the day of the shooting, Matthew Ryan, will speak at ceremonies.

The memorial events are being held ahead of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week observances April 7-13.
