There are so many great causes in our backyards each week and many of us pick and choose which ones we will support, I am bringing attention to this particular event because it revolves around our soldiers and their families.

I was fortunate enough to serve in the United States Navy during peace time, but many of our older veterans and the new group of younger ones have risked their lives in some really intense battles.

I would light to highlight an event that has helped many of our unsung heroes thanks to people like you that show your support by participating.

This Sunday is the 8th Annual Veterans Walk at the Joseph P Mangan Hillcrest American Legion Post #1194. The walk benefits the 204th Engineer Battalion Veterans and their families and has raised over $74,000 in the past 7 years.

The monies raised have helped organizations like the Oxford Veterans Home with a $30,000 gift to build a room for Alzheimer patients, and $27,000 to help the families of  local soldiers serving in the National Guard that are often away from their families during special times like the holidays.

The walk helps fund many other services in our area including other legions.

If you’re interested in participating in this great cause please contact the American Legion Post #1194 at 607 772 1538

The 1.5 mile walk event starts at 12:30p at the Joseph P Mangan Hillcrest American Legion Post #1194, located at 363 West Service Road, Binghamton, New York..

There will be many activities including an Antique Car Show, 50/50 Raffles, Silent Auctions, food, entertainment and more.

Come out and support our Veterans and their families in need.

They put their lives on the line for us. Let’s walk for them.
