One of the cheesiest yet cool movies ever is The Blob. And I don't mean the remakes, I mean the tacky 1958 version.

First of all, is there any other "cult" film that stars someone like Steve McQueen? Nope! McQueen was the actor back then. Somehow, he still starred in this flick. By the way, I screamed like a girl at the movie theater scene.

Did you know that The Blob was based on a real story? Seriously!

In 1950, two police officers in Philadelphia saw a parachute like thing drop from the sky. When they investigated, they found a purple, blobby substance on the ground. Of course one of them touched it and it left a slimy residue on him. By the time the FBI got there (yes, they were called), the blob had dissolved. There was not a single trace of it on the ground; the grass was even undisturbed. The case was never solved.

Oh, by all accounts, it was 6 feet in diameter and gave off a mist.

It didn't take long for Hollywood types to hear the story and the movie was born! You would think it was filmed in Hollywood too, but they did it in Valley Forge, PA.
