I have been walking the halls cursing today. Why? Because every time I touch the corners of the walls or anything metal, I get shocked.

Did you know the corners of the walls at many work places have metal corner beads (edges) on them? I didn't, until I got shocked.

How do we prevent the static issues? First you have to know what not to do.

1. Don't wear sneakers. The soles help you build up static.

2. Don't wear synthetic fiber clothes. Apparently, the man made stuff is a great electricity conductor.

3. Wearing layers will make you build up an electricity stock pile.

Now onto things you can do to prevent static shocks:

1. Cover your fabric office chair with something not good at conducting electricity. Those pesky fabric chairs can cause big shocks!

2. If possible get a humidifier at work (laugh now. We know it's not in the budget).

3. Have something like a key handy to touch things first so you only get a "baby" shock and not a bigger one by touching a wall, etc.

Other than that advice, you're on your own! I refuse to stop wearing my sneakers.
