My Dad is gonna kick my butt for sharing this, but so be it! His neighbors have been instrumental in helping him through health issues and they deserve a big hug and thanks.

My dad was diagnosed with cancer early last year. He lives in South Jersey, so I am a bit far away to help a great deal. My sister, God love her, lives 11 doors down from Dad. She took charge, but no one has that many vacation days at work. So, she enlisted the help of Dad's friends and neighbors. They were only too happy to step up.

Dad recovered nicely to the point he returned to preaching on Easter. Then, he started getting hoarse. The cancer has returned. So, now as we prep for another battle, we didn't even have to ask; the neighbors are again stepping up. Heck, as I was getting ready to see my dad in the hospital yesterday morning, his neighbor Mike was mowing our lawn! And weed whacking too.

These neighbors have everyone's back, not just Dad's. If anyone has a problem, they are right there. You go on vacation? They watch your house like a hawk. Even the mail man is vigilant.

More people should have a neighborhood like this. I know I feel better about being far away now.  All it takes is getting to know those around you and offering help. Who doesn't want a happier and safer block?

What is your neighborhood like?
