Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States. It’s observed every year on the last Monday in May. It is a day set aside to remember the people who died while serving in the armed forces. There are a lot of different events planned in our area to honor our fallen countrymen and women. I put together a list of events and I’m sure there is one close to you.

 

Binghamton: The annual Memorial Day Parade will being at 2pm Monday. Starting at the American Legion Post 80, 76 Main st. and continue down Main St. to Court St., and then on to the Broome County Courthouse where a ceremony will take place.

 

Endicott: The Memorial Day Parade will get underway at 10:30 in the morning, and proceed down Washington Ave to the Veteran’s Memorial Park on Main St. across from the High School. A service will held there at 11am.

 

Vestal: A ceremony will take place at Vestal Memorial Park at noon on Monday.

 

Johnson City: The VFW and American Legion have teamed up to organize a parade from Ozalid Road to Main St. with a ceremony to follow at the gazebo at the park. The parade starts at 10am.

 

Owego: The Memorial Day Parade starts at 10:30 at the Owego Police Station on Temple St and proceeds down North Ave, to Main Street, and then on to Front St. A Service of Remembrance will follow at the Tioga County Veteran’s Memorial in front of the Courthouse.

 

Oxford: The town of Oxford has several ceremonies being held on Memorial day including a parade that will start at 9:30 am at the Oxford American Legion Post on South Washington Ave. For a complete list of the ceremonies in Oxford, click here.
