We are certainly in a snowy period in the Southern Tier!

With more snow coming overnight and this weekend, let's talk about snow days. There are times when you just can't get into work. So how do you stay sane stuck at home?

Here are some ideas!

1. First of all, do not feel guilty. You are home for your safety pure and simple. Oh, no computer or work today. That's the rule #1!

2. After you wake up, wear your favorite fun pj's, grab a hot cup of coffee or tea and plop in front of the TV.  Cartoons are on or maybe a mindless show. I will warn you that daytime TV is boring, so don't do this for long. Think of it as prep time. Rule #2 is no TV for the day after this!

3. Next up, bundle up to head outside. I think of those hideous kids snowsuits that made us waddle when I say this! Why bundle up?

4. Because it's time to find a good spot to go sledding! And don't forget to make snow angels too. Why should kids have all the fun?

5. Another choice is doing a DIY project or a hobby you haven't done in a while.

6. Or how about this, it's something I love to do, go through those old boxes of stuff from "back in the day" and reminisce. Remember that cool hot wheels track you packed away from you childhood? Set it up. You get the idea!

7. Read a book. There is one somewhere that you meant to read, so take the day to do it.

8. Bake! Make cookies, pies, cakes or whatever your little heart desires. That means you have to buy snow day supplies now for the future. Never baked? This is your chance to have fun in the kitchen.

9. If you have neighbors that you like or friends within walking distance, get together to play board games. They are always fun.

10. Explore! Today is a day to step out of your day to day routine and thought process and be whoever you want. So, explore your house (the nooks and crannies) that you haven't thought of much. Did you ever get to explore your grandparents' house or somewhere similar? Treat your house just like that.

Get it? Get silly and have fun! You have an entire day to spend away from work and mobile devices. Take advantage of it. And that is not only how you stay sane during a snow day, but how you recharge to stay sane anytime of the year.
