Every morning after we wrap up the morning show, I stroll down Court Street and take in the scenery that is Downtown Binghamton.  I can see the imprint of the stores that used to line a formerly bustling area.  The architecture speaks to the care that was given in creating the heart of the town.

What I also see are empty store fronts and, in some cases, businesses that are half-hearted attempts at success.  Don't get me wrong, there are a few businesses that are anchors and will probably be there forever.  Regardless, I see emptiness in Downtown Binghamton.

Now, you must understand, my "role model" for what a cozy downtown should be is Doylestown, PA.  My best friend, Jen, and I used to take delight in exploring it to Christmas shop.  And what an experience! The City strung lights throughout the shopping district, shop owners would display some of their wares on the sidewalk and keep their doors propped open and there were window displays done to the nines.  And every storefront was taken.

There is hope for Binghamton to return to that glory, so take heart.  With student housing in the downtown district for the first time, construction on Court Street and yes, even the Circle in place, We could see things bloom like a hearty flower.  All we need are storefronts filled and people to take a moment out of their day to patronize what does exist here.

Here's hoping that one holiday soon I can do all my shopping by just heading out the station doors and walking left or right.
