Signs That You Need a Vacation From Technology
One of the best things I did this year was to (almost) completely give up technology for a week. With the exception of needing to turn on my phone to call family members (my mom had major surgery while I was on vacation) a few times, I disengaged from the world. The first few days were really tough, but the longing to reach for my phone eventually wore off and I found that I was able to enjoy time with my husband and our son more than I have in quite some time.
I can't even begin to tell you how much less stress I felt after a week with virtually no technology. I mean, by the end of the week, I felt so much less pressure to be on top of everything at every second and was really able to focus on what matters most in my life, my family.
I admit, I secretly like when my family goes on vacation each summer because cell service is super spotty and there's definitely no internet, do I don't feel obligated to reply to texts, calls, and emails and am able to "let my hair down" and just be. Be with nature, be with my family, be in the moment.
Listen, I'm not even going to pass judgment if you're glued to your devices because it happens to all of us. However, there comes a point when that attachment becomes and problem. So, how do you know if you've reached the problem point? According to Bustle, there are some very important signs that indicate you might want to set down your devices for a bit.
The first sign is when you can't function unless you know where your phone or tablet is at all times. The second sign? When your friends start to complain that you're not even able to put down your phone and have a conversation with them. Just them. I would be lying if I said I haven't had this conversation with my husband because we have. And it's not an easy discussion to have. Another big sign that you need a break is when you start worrying about whether or not what you shared on social media will get a lot of likes or comments.
