Yet Another Local Fair Canceled Due to COVID-19
WBNG is reporting that the Kirkwood Town Fair, which was supposed to be held August 6th through the 8th, has been canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
I was just thinking about this yesterday as I was making my way to Conklin Players Club for my Monday Night Golf League. As you drive down the road that takes you from Interstate 81 to Route 7, the park where they hold the Kirkwood Town Fair is on the right hand side.
Every year while I'm on my way to golf, I would see the rides starting to show up the week before the event. Then the week after the event there's usually one or two rides that are still waiting to go to the next town fair.
As I was driving past yesterday and looked down into the park, I thought to myself that I hadn't heard whether or not the Kirkwood Town Fair was canceled. I figured it would be, like pretty much everything else this summer, because of Covid-19.
The Kirkwood Fair joins the list of annual Southern Tier events that have been canceled for 2020 because of the pandemic. That list includes the Strawberry Festival, The Dick's Open, The Lumberjack Festival, and the Maple Festival to name a few.
I think it would be easier to list what is still happening as opposed to what's not happening.
According to WBNG, Kirkwood is still planning on holding the event in 2021.
