Work Begins on Bridges Near Lockheed Martin in Owego
Work is being done on three bridge over Route 17, 17C and the Susquehanna River near Lockheed Martin in Owego.
The New York State Department of Transportation says Route 960J will be restricted to a single lane with alternating one-way traffic during construction.
Preliminary site work this week is modifying the traffic signal infrastructure to accommodate the temporary traffic pattern.
Next year, both bridges over the river and Route 17C will be closed with a detour using Exits 64 and 65 on State Route 17.
The $11.5 million rehabilitation project is expected to be complete late next year.
The project involves replacing the bridge decks and bearings, repairing drainage and concrete on bridge abutment and piers and upgrading signs and lighting.
DOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominquez says the project will “modernize and strengthen three critical bridges, supporting travel, commerce and economic growth for years to come.”
The spans are located near industry and businesses like Lockheed Martin and the Owego Treadway Inn as well as serving as a connection to Hickories Park camping and other facilities and bike routes.
