The four-level structure on Arch Street is located near the site of a smaller parking deck which collapsed just over a year ago.

The parking facility is adjacent to the Picciano Building, which housed medical offices before it was vacated in May.

Construction workers have been busy at the garage in recent days. Signs indicate the ramp is used to provide physician and reserved employee parking.

It was not known when the parking facility was closed. Johnson City Mayor Greg Deemie said he had not been aware the garage had been shut down.

A UHS representative was not available Tuesday afternoon to discuss the project.

It appears the ramp can accommodate about 300 vehicles. It is located across the street from Wilson Medical Center.

When the offices and services were relocated from the Picciano Building about three months ago, UHS officials said that structure would have to be empty for about a year for major renovation work.

United Health Services has not released the results of an investigation into the collapse of the parking deck. No injuries were reported in the incident but several cars were destroyed.
