Willow Point Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility Rating Upgraded

A local extended-care facility that had been criticized for ignoring patients’ needs and serving sub-standard meals is showing improvement.

Broome County Officials say Willow Point Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has received a three-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Willow Point had a one-star rating after clients complained of poor food or even meals that never came at all, forcing some people to go hungry, lose weight and suffer health issues.

In February of 2018 County Executive Jason Garnar announced Aramark would be dropped as the provider of food services to the nursing home, jail, senior centers and Meals on Wheels.

Several months later, the Broome County Legislature approved a contract with Sodexo and Trinity Services Ground Incorporated for food preparation and delivery.  Sodexo being the company to provide meals at Willow Point.

Prior to the food services being contracted out to Aramark, that work was done in-house by a division known as “Central Kitchen.”

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issues its ratings to every long-term care in the U.S. that accepts Medicare and Medicaid based on a health survey, staffing and quality.
