I have to admit, when it comes to using airports and doctors, I have a big city mentality; they are bigger so they are better. That may be true with doctors, but I have changed my mind about the flying part.

Greater Binghamton Airport is right here in our backyard and convenient. As I was checking out fares and services, since I have to fly down South this year, I discovered some cool things about "BGM".

1. They have a very well put together website. It's loaded with info you need to plan a trip, from parking rates to travel agencies. Plus it's very user friendly, which for me is a must!

2. The fares are reasonable. Who can complain about paying between $178 and $244 to head to Orlando, Florida?

3. You have airline choices. Some regional airports only have a single airline that flies out of them. We have 3 choices (Delta, United and US Airways). Not bad at all.

4. Convenience. Instead of driving to a larger airport, you can take a quick trip to Airport road and fly! Pretty handy. To save parking fees, you have the luxury of asking a friend or family member to drop you off. Did I mention you won't have to push your way through a crowd of thousands to get to your gate?

Just remember, TSA rules still apply at regional airports. Luckily, the BGM website has a full list of rules and regulations. If you are planning a trip, make sure you read it before you fly. New TSA rules go into effect on April 25th, so if you are flying around that time, double check the rules.

A last thought: supporting the Greater Binghamton airport helps support our local economy. Not a bad bonus.

Happy flying!
