Who’s Rod Serling?
One of the first things I learned when I arrived in Binghamton 3 years ago was that Rod Serling is proudly held as a native son. Pretty cool. According to Beloit College's Mindset List, however, we seem to be in the minority when it comes to anything Twilight.
Beloit's Mindset List comes from a poll of incoming freshmen to the college. They are asked about how they view the world. The results make me realize how lucky I am to have grown up before the technology revolution.
After reading the Mindset List results, a portion of which I share below, comment away! I feel so old!
The Beloit College Mindset List
Here’s a rundown of some of the highlights:
- They have never seen an airplane ‘‘ticket.’’
- There has always been football in Jacksonville but never in Los Angeles.
- Exposed bra straps have always been a fashion statement, not a wardrobe malfunction to be corrected quietly by well-meaning friends.
- A significant percentage of them will enter college already displaying some hearing loss.
- Before they buy an assigned textbook, they will check to see whether it’s available for rent or purchase as an e-book.
- Women have always piloted war planes and space shuttles.
- There have always been blue M&Ms, but no tan ones.
- History has always had its own channel.
- They watch television everywhere but on a television.
- The Twilight Zone involves vampires, not Rod Serling.
- Point-and-shoot cameras are soooooo last millennium. (Boston.com)
