When In Doubt, Throw It Out!
We're probably all guilty of it; there has been food in your fridge for probably far too long, but it looks and smells okay. Or, perhaps, the use by/expiration date hasn't passed yet, so it must be good! Here is your one stop shop for food expiration expectations:
- Eggs: toss after 3-5 weeks
- Hard boiled eggs: one week
- Bacon: one week (raw), 4-5 days (cooked)
- Chopped hamburger or ground meat: 1-2 days raw, 3-4 days cooked
- Hot dogs: 1 week opened, 2 weeks unopened
- Deli meat: 3-5 days opened, 2 weeks unopened
- Steak, chops, and roasts: 3-5 days raw, 4-6 days cooked
- Poultry: 1-2 days raw, 3-4 days cooked
- Chicken nuggets: 3-4 days cooked
- Fish and shellfish: 1-2 days raw, 3-4 days cooked
- Leftover pizza: 3-4 days
- Soups and stews: 3-4 days
- Milk: 2-3 days after sell-by date
- Prepared deli salads: 3-5 days
Looks like I have a few things that I need to toss in my fridge right now!
