Can you believe it's August already? How time flies! Don't waste any this weekend, there's plenty to do in the Southern Tier.

If you feel like cutting a rug and meeting people, this dance should do it! VFW Post 1536, 932 W. Lockhart Street in Sayre, PA, holds a Valley Dance tonight from 7 to 11 pm at the Hall. There'll be a dj, food and prizes.

Tonight, there is also the Endicott Elks Friday night dinner with chicken fried steak. That sounds good! it's 5 to 7 pm at the lodge, 619 Nanticoke Ave in Endicott. Everyone is welcome.

And of course, since it's the first Friday in August, it's time for First Friday downtown. There's an artwalk, food, music and so much to see! Check out the locations and details right here.

For ongoing ways to be part of the community here are some things to do:

The Family Reading Partnership of Owego Apalachin is in need
of gently used/new children's books to supply to their free giveaway
book program. To donate, you may drop off the books at the Coburn Free Library
or call 625-3132.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is holding an Arts & Crafts Fair on September 7th
and they want vendors. All items shoud be handmade/homemade.
No resale items. For info and to reserve a spot, contact the church at 648-8104.

Broome County office for Aging is recruiting volunteers to be classroom grandmas
and grandpas in schools, daycares and Head Starts. Must bee 55 and older, low
income and like kids. For details call the Foster Grandparent program at 778-2089.

There's nothing like a good ride for a good cause, so how about this? Heidee's 6th annual Memorial Cruise for Diabetes is Saturday at Fred's Inn, Route 12 in Norwich. Sign up is 9 to 10 am and the ride starts at 10:30 am/ $15 per person, cars welcome! Ride ends at Balsam Inn in Pharsalia. There will be plenty of fun at the end with food, music, raffles and more!

Or how about a community fair? The Rome Volunteer Fire Company's Annual Roman Holidays are at the Hall on Main Street Route 187 in Rome PA on Saturday.
Midway opens at 10 am, and parade at 6:30 pm. There'll be music, chicken bbq,
games and more.
