Adam Weitsman says he's "more confident than ever" that his plan to acquire the Johnson City property occupied by Davis College will be finalized within several weeks.

The Broome County businessman said he toured the site off Riverside Drive with several village officials last week to get a sense of what they'd like to see happen to the campus.

Weitsman Tuesday said they seemed to be most interested in maintaining a "scholastic" use for the property.

Earlier this month, Weitsman said he's received inquiries from two universities about the possibility of utilizing the site for a satellite campus.

Davis College has been preparing to merge its operations with Word of Life Bible Institute in Pottersville.

Weitsman said he expects to the sale of the property will close by the third week of September. The proposed purchase price is about $3.7 million.

Weitsman said Davis College is in the process of moving from the Johnson City campus.

In addition to the campus property, Weitsman plans to buy a two-story 12-unit apartment building on Riverside Drive between Shelby and Elfred streets. That property has been used as a Davis College residence hall.

Weitsman said he hopes the United States Postal Service will keep the Bible School Park post office on the campus open. He said he realizes the post office is important to the community.
