The line on Franklin Street broke at around 7 p.m. January 15 and closed a portion of the road between Clark Street and Skye Island Drive while crews fixed the pipe and dealt with the resulting ice.

Officials expected repair work to continue through the day resulting in intermittent discolored water.

Residents are told they do not need to boil their water but the Water Department recommended customers run the cold (not hot) water until it clears before using.

Other minor water issues have been reported in the region over the past few days, both inside and outside of structures.  Officials say older pipes have been stressed from temperatures swinging from unseasonably warm to into the single digits.
