It's hard for me to think of vinyl records as antiques, or products from the 'Olden Days', but the resurgence of new vinyl album releases are now being introduced to a new generation.

I was in a book store yesterday and saw a whole section of brand new classic albums, all arranged in their holding bins, and I was instantly taken back to my younger days.

Amazon has created its own vinyl store, and is giving away various records until November 4th!

My mom tells the story of me sitting in a corner of the room spinning 45’s on a coke bottle when I was about 3 years old.

I have been a music collector since my dad bought me my first 45 RPM when I was about 4 years old, it was Mr Bass Man by Johnny Cymbal. I remember he also bought me Puff The Magic Dragon. Soon I was asking for other songs I heard on the radio, and eventually buying my own at record stores.

I remember going to Woolworth's or the Family Bargain Center on Chenango Street and buying a bundle of 45’s. They were in a brown box and you couldn’t see what you got until you opened up the package.

Wow! 1910 Fruitgum Company’s Simon Says, The Fifth Dimension’s Up, Up and Away - I had a case that I kept them in, and had quite the collection by the time I was 9 or 10. Whenever I hear an older song from those days, I can actually see the 45 with the record label logo spinning around on the turntable.

Oh and one more thing! Anyone who grew up in the record era has had certain 45’s or LP’s that skipped in parts of them. To this day whenever I hear those songs I can still hear the skips, I call them ‘Phantom Skips’. Does that ever happen to you?
