A driver who eluded Vestal police officers by running into the woods was finally tracked down at the bus station in downtown Binghamton.

Authorities say 18-year-old Nathan Wilcox of Vestal was taken into custody Wednesday. He was charged with reckless endangerment and unlawful fleeing a police officer.

According to Vestal police, officers tried to stop a vehicle that was driving without its headlights on around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The vehicle continued southbound on Route 26 without stopping for police. It then turned onto Meeker Road where an officer saw it go through a stop sign and then try to pass a car in a no-passing zone.

Police say the driver of the fleeing vehicle ran away after striking the other car.

Wilcox was arraigned in Vestal town court and sent to Broome County Jail. Investigators say more charges are expected to be filed against Wilcox.
