City of Binghamton Police say a Harpursville man is charged with vehicular assault after two teen-age girls, walking on Beethoven Street in Binghamton, were hit by a sport utility vehicle.

The incident happened at 3:26 p.m. March 11 less than two blocks south of Recreation Park on the city's West Side.

City Police say the 16 and 19-year-old pedestrians were on the east side of the street when they were hit by a southbound Jeep Wrangler, driven by 33-year-old Kevin Wilcox. After the pedestrians were hit, Wilcox’s Jeep continued traveling south, going through yards and hitting a tree and a street sign before coming to a rest at the intersection with Lincoln Avenue.

Police said the girls were seriously hurt and taken by ambulance to Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center.  Their names and conditions have not been released.

Authorities say Wilcox was not injured but was suspected to be under the influence of drugs.

He is charged with felony vehicular assault and misdemeanor driving while ability impaired by drugs.
