Unknown History of the American Flag
Does the name Robert Heft ring a bell? From the 'you learn something new everyday" department, just when you thought you knew everything about the American flag, you find out you may not know all that much about this historic symbol that represents our country.
Come to find out the original flag with 13 stars in a circle, hand sewn from Betsy Ross in 1776 had to be redesigned as more states were added. Little did anyone know, a small high school in Ohio back in the late 1950's took this opportunity to make this a high school school project.
The flag as we know it, was actually designed from that high school project and accepted years later. The funny thing is the student did not initially receive a good grade on the project until years later. It was the 34th President of the United States, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, that passed the good news on to the student. But did that high school student get a better grade? You'll have to watch the video to find out for sure.
