There are two simple ways to protect yourself from someone stealing your credit information, but you probably don't think they are important to do.

That's ok, you are in the majority that don't follow these steps. Let's talk about them.

The first is looking at your bills, bank and credit statements with a fine toothed comb. Here's an example; I never look at my cell phone bill, but I did this week and found a charge I didn't know about! Naturally, I called and got it squared away. it was only .99 but that adds up.

Make a point of looking at everything having to do with finances every month.

The second way to protect your credit is something I never thought about, but Creditcards.com did. Luckily, when a scam is attempted, that website is all over it!

The tip is simple: don't throw out your receipts. Even though only the last 4 digits of your card number are on the paper, so is your name. Thieves will look you up, call you and try to "phish" the rest of your information out of you. Sometimes they are successful. Treat your receipts as if they are sensitive information and shred them.

You should always take a look at your receipts to make sure there are no charges you are unaware of as a rule. If a business doesn't offer you a receipt ask them for it.

Happy shopping!
