Two people sustained serious injuries when a sport utility vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 17 in Delaware County.

The crash happened on the expressway shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday in the village of Hancock.

According to the Hancock Fire Department, one person was trapped in the SUV when emergency crews arrived at the scene. Firefighters were able to quickly extricate that person.

Both of those who were hurt were taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

The names of those involved in the crash were not released.

The collision was being investigated by New York State Police. It was not known whether any charges had been filed in connection with the crash.
