The man convicted of deliberately running down and killing New York State Trooper Christopher Skinner in 2014 on Interstate 81 South of Castle Creek will spend the rest of his life in prison.

62 year old Almond Upton was given the maximum sentence for first degree murder in spite of his claims that he has severe mental disabilities.

A jury didn’t buy that argument and convicted him in July.

Upton spoke in court for the first time at sentencing and expressed his sympathy to Trooper Skinner’s family and said he took responsibility but said the events were beyond his control.

Judge Joseph Cawley says Upton running down the trooper was nothing short of an assassination.
