Authorities say the rig carrying food items crashed off 17 east between Apalachin and Vestal, west of Exit 67 (Vestal) at around 5:30 a.m.

By 7:30 a.m. there were reports of traffic reduced to one lane and extensive back-ups.

By 8 a.m. Police said the work to clear the scene would take "hours" since an excavator would have to be brought in to get the tractor trailer back on the road and towed from the area.

There were no reports of injuries and no hazardous material involved.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
