Texas Teacher Dubbed “Tool Of The Day” Because of 9/11 Lesson

It takes a lot to really make me blow a gasket, but a 4th grade teacher at  Hughey Elementary School in El Paso, Texas has accomplished that feat.

Deciding to turn the events of September 11, 2001 into a lesson, the teacher explained why it happened like this "The Afghans did this because they hate all of us and want to kill all of us.'"  That according to a student in the class. 

My problem with this is, she is making it seem that a whole nation was behind this when it was Al-Quaeda.  This is, in effect, an ethnically insensitive message of hate.

After this huge chunk of mis-information, the biggest part of the lesson:  making the kids draw the planes flying into the Twin Towers, people falling from the building, cloud of smoke and all. 

What kind of idiot doesn't know that kids will be traumatized by this???  Hello!  Even most adults can't handle this stuff.  And yet, this "teacher" has a degree and is allowed to shape the minds of our children! 

Needless to say, the parents of the children are outraged.  Some of the students are having nightmares and showing other signs of distress. One child is now under the impression this happens every September 11th and refused to go outside.

KFOXTV.com got this statement from the schools leaders:

“EPISD is very concerned about the images that were drawn in response to a lesson on the events of September 11,” the statement read. “District and campus administrators are investigating the specific assignment and are interviewing the personnel involved. We regret the insensitivity that this action may have caused and wish to assure our community that we will act swiftly in this matter and will take any and all appropriate action. We extend our sincere apologies.”
