We've had our share of disasters and emergency situations in the Southern Tier, but are we as prepared as possible for the next one?

The Red Cross is teaming up with JCC Binghamton and New York State to offer a session called 'Prepare, Respond, Recover: What to Do When Disaster Strikes' on Thursday at the JCC on 500 Clubhouse Road in Vestal. It's from 6:30 to 8 pm and you can register by calling 724-2417.

You will learn things that you didn't know before or may not know.

For example, did you know that the best way to reach out to someone after a disaster is by text? You know how we got busy signals on our cells or 'circuits are busy' messages during the flood? That was because people tried calling others and that takes up a much greater amount of bandwidth than texting. 800 texts equal one call!

Now you know to text and not call. That is one of the things you will learn during this session. it's free and open to everyone, so come out and take advantage of this great resource.
