Health officials around the region continue to update residents on the importance of getting vaccinated and updated boosters to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recently, there had been a drop in new COVID cases but the number of serious illness requiring hospitalization and deaths in the Southern Tier have been up.
Broome County reports 80 people in the hospital as of the end of the day October 18, down a dozen from the number reported in the hospital on October 15.
State Department of Health officials tell The Associated Press that only a tiny fraction of those new cases are so-called outbreaks in vaccinated New Yorkers.
