Troopers say 56-year-old Michael Patchen of Conklin failed to notice the stopped school bus with its flashing lights and stop sign arm extended at around 8:30 a.m.at Route 11 and School Avenue in the Town of Kirkwood and hit the back of the bus with his Buick.

Authorities say 27 elementary school students, including two who had just boarded, were on the bus along with the bus driver.

The district says all students were evaluated at the scene then transported to Francis P-Donnelly Elementary School for further evaluations by S.V. medical staff and parents were notified.

State Police say Patchen was transported to Wilson Hospital with minor injuries to his hands.
