Johnson City PD Rescue Stray Tomato in Viral Post
Tomato, toe-mah-to. That's the first thing that rang in my crazy head when I sat down to write this article. Yea, I know, I'm a bit left of center. It comes with being a radio personality...I think.
Anyway, the subject of this article is a tomato plant and a lone tomato. Why? Well, it's because of something I saw on the Johnson City, New York Police Department Facebook page.
I live in the Village of Johnson City and have seen the great work the offices do day in and day out, but this is an interesting situation I've never heard of, and I'm guessing the department has never had to rescue.
According to a post on the Johnson City Police Department Facebook page on Thursday, August 31st, 2023, some of the officers who were on the scene of an unrelated incident, noticed a tomato plant with a lone tomato, growing in a crack in the road on Route 201 in the village.
Now how that tomato plant got there, we'll never know. I would guess that a seed was picked up and dropped by a bird at some point. And the fact that this plant grew enough to produce a ripe tomato, is nothing less than a miracle. well, okay, maybe not exactly a miracle, but pretty impressive anyway, given the circumstances.
You know how many vehicles flow through Route 201 on a daily basis, and not one of those fast-moving vehicles ran over the plant which would have turned that tomato into paste.
Of course, the JCPD had fun with the whole situation with tomato puns. Still, more importantly, the fact that they rescued this little tomato plant and its lone tomato from eventual destruction, is very honorable.
And now the tomato plant is safely in a container, able to continue to grow tomatoes. Good Job Johnson City Police Department! Check out the JCPD Facebook post below.
