Strawberry Festival Preparations on Southern Tier Close Up
Plans for the 37th annual Owego Strawberry Festival will be outlined on the May 13 edition of the weekly local public affairs program Southern Tier Close Up.
One of the organizers, Pat Hansen talks about the evolution of the festival that began as a way to draw business to Owego merchants but now serves as a major fund-raising event for several local non-profit agencies.
The festival begins with a block party from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. Friday, June 16 and continues starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 17 before concluding at 5 p.m.
In addition to various goodies featuring strawberries, diverse entertainment is scheduled for all ages.
Due to a water project on Lake Street, vendors can be spread through different areas in downtown Owego.
Hansen stresses there is stress-free parking and shuttle service being offered Saturday from the fairgrounds and Hickories Park.
Information about the festival and vendor applications can be found at www.owego.org.
Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Sunday at 6 am on 99.1 The Whale.
