A state trooper was hurt after he scuffled with a driver following a vehicle pursuit in Chenango County.

According to WBNG, the trooper tried to stop a car on County Route 41 in Afton shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle apparently had an expired inspection sticker.

Authorities say the driver failed to comply with the trooper. The car drove off and then crashed near Loomis Road.

The driver then allegedly ran from the scene. The trooper pursued the suspect on foot.

The trooper sustained arm injuries trying to take the driver into custody. The driver reportedly sustained a bite from a police dog.

The suspect faces several charges, including driving while impaired, criminal possession of a controlled substance and reckless driving.

Police say the driver was on parole.

There was no word as to whether the trooper or the drive required hospital treatment.
